Frequently Asked Questions about Workplace Health Concerns
for UC Berkeley Employees
Where is the best place to seek health care if I feel I have health
symptoms related to my workplace?
You have several possible options, including:
- University Health Services (UHS) Occupational Health Clinic
- Call (510) 642-6891 to schedule an appointment.
UHS occupational health providers are familiar with the campus
and its field stations and can help answer questions, provide
additional information and coordinate a medical evaluation as
warranted.
- Your personal doctor/health plan.
- This may be preferable, especially for those with a prior history
of potentially related medical conditions. Your doctor will be
able to evaluate your current symptoms in the context of your
medical history.
- If University Health Services (UHS) serves as your primary health
care provider, make an appointment for an evaluation:
- Students: Call (510) 642-2000 to schedule an appointment.
- UHS Health Net patients: Call (510) 642-1976 for an appointment.
- As always, if you experience symptoms of an acute medical emergency
e.g., chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting or severe dizziness,
you should call 911. The responders will transport you to an appropriate
facility.
Should I go to the Urgent Care Clinic at UHS?
- If your symptoms need immediate medical attention, the Urgent Care
Clinic can help with initial evaluation, stabilization or referral.
- When you arrive at Urgent Care, your condition will be assessed
to determine if you need to be seen right away, or if the better option
is to schedule an appointment either with your doctor or the Occupational
Health Clinic.
What if my doctor has questions or wants more information about
conditions at my workplace?
- The UHS Occupational Health clinical staff are available to speak
with your doctor, to answer questions or provide specific information.
Ask your doctor to call (510) 642-6891 and ask to speak with Dr. Diane
Liu, who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and Occupational
and Environmental Medicine. She also completed Fellowship Training
in Clinical Toxicology.
Are there other sources of information about workplace health issues?
What if I have questions, want additional information, or have had
problems receiving care at UHS?
- Contact Dr. Diane Liu (UHS Occupational Health Physician) at (510)
642-6891.
If you are a UC Berkeley employee, and have questions regarding
Workers' Compensation, call (510) 643-7921.
