Many of us find it challenging to be physically active, whether we are too busy, too overwhelmed, or just too tired. Health*Matters encourages faculty and staff to be part of the CalWalks culture by taking small steps to a healthier way of life. Engage in programs and fnd resources that will help you build a physically active lifestyle by fitting fitness into your workday. CAMPUS WALKING TOURS

  • Strawberry Canyon Walking Tour
    See Strawberry Creek - A Walking Tour of Campus Natural History, a 20-page guide on about Strawberry Creek and its history, fish pools, the Eucalyptus Grove and lots, lots more.
  • Campus Walking Tours
    Free, guided campus walking tours, led by expert student guides, take place daily, seven days a week, rain or shine, excluding some university holidays and break periods. See Visitor Services for more information and to make a reservation.

Meet at the Campanile and take a green stroll to The Local on Sproul Plaza and the Berkeley Student Food Cooperative on Bancroft Way for delicious and fresh local produce. Then head back to the Campanile for the BYO picnic featuring food day information and the Cal Golden Overtones

UC Walks: Cal Walks @ Work Day
May 18, 2011

 

 



On May 18, 2011 over 3,500 staff, faculty, postdocs, retirees, medical center employees, scientists, and students walked a total of 95,945 minutes or 6,396 miles. That's the equivalent of 244.12 marathon distances walked or the distance from San Diego, California to Rome, Italy! (A marathon is 26.2 miles.)

The Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk for Suicide Prevention - American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
June 9-10, 2012
The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a fundraising walk of up to 18 miles throughout the night, designed to raise funds and make a bold statement to bring the issue of suicide out into the light. The Overnight is organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.
