About Health Promotion at UC Berkeley
- How do you define health?
- How do you define well-being?
- What are the connections between your lifestyle, surroundings,
culture and health?
- What communities are you a part of? What are the most important
issues facing your communities? Have you thought about what you can
do to bring about positive change?
The Health Promotion Unit is here to assist Cal students in promoting
health and well-being and preventing illness and injuries. Our programs
are designed:
- To help students learn information and skills and to support them
in engaging in behaviors that promote health and prevent illness and
injury;
- To work with student peer educators to create environments that
support health, build community, and encourage respect, understanding,
and compassion; and
- To support campus communities in assessing and addressing health-related
issues.
Staying healthy and being an active participant in your well-being
can increase your success here at Cal. As a student, there are a variety
of ways you can take advantage of Health Promotion services. For example:
- Earn academic credit while taking "Healthy People" or "Drugs and
Society," two of our public health courses.
- Learn how to reduce your stress through an individual consultation
with a health educator.
- Ask any questions you've always wanted to know about safer sex or
sexual pleasure during a confidential sexual health
appointment.
- Attend a theater performance by other Cal students that explores
the impact of HIV/AIDS on communities of color.
- Connect with the student "Health Worker" who lives in
your co-op, family housing unit, fraternity, sorority, International
House, or residence hall and access the breadth of health information,
referrals, and supplies they can provide you.
- Visit our Self-Care Resource Center to learn about a variety of
health issues, including information on a particular illness or helping
a friend with the aftermath of a rape.
- Develop skills, help others, make friends, have fun, and learn more
about health and medical careers by being a peer health educator.
