Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP)
SHEP is a group of trained student peer educators who promote sexual health at Cal by providing accurate, nonjudgmental information. Our mission is to empower students to feel comfortable with their bodies and make informed decisions about their sexuality, including whether or not to be sexually active. SHEP works in the public health model, with an emphasis on prevention and well-being. Our peer educators are part of the multidisciplinary Tang Center team that includes clinicians, health educators, social workers, and other health professionals. SHEP has existed in various forms since the early 1970s, making it one of the longest-running university sexual health programs. We reach thousands of students through workshops, 1-on-1 appointments, and special events. Our target audience includes all Cal students, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, and level of sexual knowledge or experience. SHEP consists of several components:
