Interest Assessment

Self-assessment is the first step in career planning and part of the self-assessment process involves identifying your interests.

  1. Meet Cal students who share your interests
  2. Learn about majors that fit your interests
  3. Discover potential career options that could be satisfying to you

According to John Holland's theory of personality and work environments, people and careers can be classified into six different types. Generally, people are not one “pure type” instead, most people have interests that are a combination of two or more of the types.

  • Realistic (R)
  • Investigative (I)
  • Artistic (A)
  • Social (S)
  • Enterprising (E)
  • Conventional (C)
