The City of Berkeley, UC Berkeley, California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, and local agencies are collaborating on the Sixth Annual Berkeley Alcohol Awareness Month. We are calling out to everyone in Berkeley to help prevent alcohol problems in our city.

Should you be concerned about alcohol use/abuse?

Take a quiz and see if you -- or someone you know -- could benefit from more information about drinking or drug use. Take advantage of the Alcohol Screening Days on April 3rd or 17th, and drop in to one of the sites listed to the left. Print out sample screening tools and a list of resources in the Berkeley area.

Take the Sober Weekend Pledge before April 16th!

Berkeley City Council Proclamation - Alcohol Awareness Month 2009
Berkeley City Council Chambers, 2134 MLK, Jr. Way. 7PM.
Join Mayor Tom Bates and the Berkeley City Council as they officially launch this annual community-wide event.

April 3

Alcohol Screening Day
Options Recovery Services will provide alcohol screenings on Friday, April 3 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (1931 Center Street, upstairs; 510-666-9552).

April 9

Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training
Tang Health Center 2222 Bancroft Way. 1 - 4:30PM.
Free RBS Training designed especially for college-aged alcohol sellers and servers. Hosted by Students for a Safer Southside. Advance registration required. Email or call safersouthside@gmail.com or 510-251-1619.

April 16-18

Sober Weekend 2009
Abstain from alcohol for three days. That's it. Can you do it? Individuals who experience difficulty/discomfort are urged to contact local resources.
Take the Sober Weekend Pledge before April 16th!

Responsible Beverage Service LEAD Trainings for Merchants
Berkeley Police Department. 9AM-1PM or 2PM-6PM
This LEAD training is for commercial establishments licensed to sell and serve alcohol in Berkeley. Satisfies the city requirement for RBS training. Check back for registration information.

SUI: Sex Under the Influence ** NEW DATE AND TIME! **

Information and activities, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) crash vehicle, at 6th Annual Berkeley High School Health & Wellness Fair.

Poster Contest and Display
Berkeley Public Library
See the award-winning alcohol awareness posters by Berkeley K-12 students at the Berkeley Public Library. Poster Contest winners will be displayed in the Library Teen area from April 3 - 17. Alcohol Awareness Displays will be showcased in the Library Display cases on the 2nd floor from April 14 - 27.
