Tips for Managing the Stress of Change/Transition:
- Accept that the transition process will include elements of loss,
uncertainty, confusion and not feeling in control
- Be aware that there are stages in the transition process that may
include: shock, denial, resistance, anger, sadness, and acceptance
of change
- Remember that you may go through the transition process faster,
slower, or differently than others
- Control what you can and take appropriate action in areas where
you do have control or influence
- Seek information and resources; this can include self-assessment,
skill building opportunities, and feedback from others on your values,
skills, and strengths.
- Avoid making other significant changes in your life at the same
time as major work changes -- if possible
- Maintain self-care strategies -- good nutrition, sleep, exercise,
relaxation, and time with loved ones
- Talk with others. Find trusted people willing to listen
- Establish short-term goals for yourself -- to accomplish them
will give you an increased sense of confidence and control
- Strive to be calm in the face of major news, that way you will
get more information
- Maintain your dignity and self-respect. Your job situation does
not define your worth as a person
- Strengthen your personal support systems outside of work
