Responsibilities for Sponsoring a UC Berkeley Blood Drive

Sponsors for UC Berkeley Blood Drives are essential for recruiting donors, volunteering, spreading the word, and encouraging others to donate. Please accept a big THANK YOU - we couldn't do it without you! The sponsor responsibilities include:

1) Planning and organizing for the blood drive:

  • Work with the managers of the American Red Cross and UCSF Blood Centers, as well as the ARC@Cal student leaders and other sponsors, to plan and organize the blood drive
  • Collect a minimum of 75 donor appointments

2) Promoting the drive two weeks prior to the scheduled blood drive

  • Set up tables on Sproul Plaza to give out flyers and schedule donors for an appointment. (Donors may schedule appointments through your organization, the ARC@Cal student organization, or www.beadonor.com using the sponsor code "UCB.")
  • Post flyers (provided by Red Cross & UCSF Blood Center) on the UCB campus and surrounding area (i.e. Telegraph).
  • Encourage club members to make announcements at the beginning of lectures, on facebook, club website, any means of publicity, etc.
  • Ask UCB departments (e.g. MCB, IB, etc.) to publicize the blood drive in their department announcements and emails.
  • Help recruit volunteers for the day of the drive.

Please note: The Red Cross@Cal representatives will provide you with a variety of recruitment tools and may publicize the specific blood drive in the Daily Cal newspaper.

3) Volunteering on the day of the drive

One to two volunteers per hour are needed for the following positions: flyering and canvassing on Sproul Plaza to recruit walk-in donors, registration process, canteening/food/post donation area, and miscellaneous tasks (i.e. wear mascot costume, greeters, etc.).

Benefits of Sponsorship

If a sponsor's blood drive achieves its projected goal or number of donors, all sponsors will receive:

  • A scheduled tour of the UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus
  • A scheduled tour of the American Red Cross
  • A pizza party for their club officers and leaders
