Student Web AssistantJob Title: Assistant III Department:

Hours: 10-15 hours week throughout summer and at minimum through 2008-09
academic year Salary: $17/hour Duration: Minimum of one year
Start date: Upon hiring; Replacement for current student web position
Overview of UHS Information Systems UHS occupies the Tang Center,
a 75,000 sq. feet buildling with over 300 computer users who work with a variety
of applications, depending on their job function, and who range from first-time
computer users to expert users of specific applications. UHS Information
Systems supports a wide variety of vendor-supplied and homegrown business and
clinical information systems. Information Systems provides support for the public
Internet website for UHS, which includes interactive web applications constructed
with Active Service Pages and MS SQL Server. Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant is responsible for the development and maintenance of the public
Internet website (uhs.berkeley.edu) and the UHS Intranet site used by UHS staff.
Position is 10-15 hours week throughout summer and at minimum through 2008-09
academic year. For training purposes, it's crucial this position can be available
as student employee for a minimum of one year. Duties include:
- Web Page Design and Coding
Development and maintenance
of web page templates and code content pages. Use standard graphics software to
create graphics and pdf files. Make updates and corrections to existing pages
as requested by UHS web editors. - Programming
Ability to build
web functions such as online applications, surveys - Research Projects
Perform
research into technologies and processes used for web site development and maintenance. Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of HTML experience required. Ability to hand-code
HTML. Macromedia Dreamweaver experience preferred. Knowledge of Javascript and/or
Active Server Pages is a plus. Graphic design experience with Adobe
products including Photoshop and Acrobat Professional desired. Patience
and tact in dealing with user demands and requests. Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to prioritize requests and to appropriately identify issues that require
management intervention. Flexibility in dealing with rapidly changing priorities
and demands. Strong follow through on commitments. Quick learner;
interest and ability to assume new roles and learn new technologies on a frequent
basis. Some knowledge of Windows XP. Proficiency in standard desktop
applications including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access, Internet Explorer/Netscape,
e-mail programs. The Web Assistant will also be working with communications
manager and outside contractor to completely overhaul website during 2008-09 academic
