Pet Hugs at UC Berkeley!
Upcoming Pet Hugs Dates: The therapy dogs will be taking a break from their usual monthly event for the summer, returning for our annual Tang Open House in August. In the meantime, check out the photo albums for your pet hugs fix! See you in August!
The first Tuesday of every month University Health Services coordinates a Pet Hug event with ARF, Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation. Cal is a highly competitive campus of 37,000 students and we at UHS are always looking for ways to help students manage their stress levels. Petting an ARF dog offers instant stress relief!
Many students share their stories with the warm, friendly human volunteers. We have overheard comments like:
“My day just got better.”
“I’ve been so stressed out, I feel a lot better now.”
“I miss my dog so much. I love being able to pet this puppy.”
Studies show interaction with companion animals lowers blood pressure, reduces anxiety and otherwise improves one’s physical and mental health. (ARF)
