In May 2005 UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau established a Task Force on Student/Neighbor Relations to bring together the many individuals and groups that are concerned about students living in private housing near campus. Focusing initially on the Willard neighborhood in the south campus area, the task force members are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the neighborhood and to promoting mutual understanding and respect among all of its residents.
