What's
New
- Party
Patrols in Full Swing
UCPD
and BPD conducted approximately 32 joint party patrols between mid-August
and mid-December 2008. The party patrols responded to more than
325 loud party complaints and issued over 240 alcohol related citations
and approximately 75 Second Response citations. Of the 44 Second
Response citations issued to South Campus locations, 26 involved
a registered Cal student and they received a letter from the Dean
of Students.
- Social
Norms Campaign Targets College Community
"Most Students Do PartySafe@Cal" is a new component of
the programs to reduce harm associated with drinking and parties
around the campus area. It aims to correct student misperceptions
of the norms of student drinking and associated harm which can have
strong and predictive influence on their drinking behavior. More
information at
http://partysafe.berkeley.edu/moststudentsdo.shtml.
- Respect
Campaign Puts Its Message into Movies
Sponsored by the Student Leadership Committee, the RESPECT Campaign
is designed to send peer-to-peer messages to Cal students on the
topics of (1) Reducing late night noise, (2) responsible drinking
and hosting, (3) curbing littering and dumping, and (4) neighborhood
safety. A poster contest was launched in Fall 2007, which resulted
in the first prize-winning
poster on the topic of littering and dumping. Currently, a series
of video clips are being produced which will send messages through
a variety of media, including CalTB, YouTube, and Facebook.
- Southside
Survey on Student Alcohol Use
Students for a Safer Southside, a Cal student organization working
to reduce the negative effects of high risk drinking, conducted
a survey in spring 2008 of south campus residents' attitudes about
student drinking and its consequences in the Willard neighborhood.
