Party Safe@Cal
Have Fun. Manage Risks. Know the Laws. Reduce Harm. Our goal is to reduce
harm associated with drinking and parties in the campus area. Is this
rocket science? No. But it does require awareness, skills, and a commitment
to do your part - whatever that may be. As a program of University Health
Services, PartySafe@Cal works in collaboration with many campus and
community partners. We are moving away from the misconception that one
size fits all and are putting our resources into successful, evidence-based
approaches. PartySafe@Cal can provide organizational leaders with information,
consultation and other resources related to reducing harm associated
with college drinking and parties. We co-lead customized workshops with
you for your organization.

through policy change and prevention. Our program trains students from
UC Berkeley to research and identify alcohol and other drug-related
problems in their neighborhoods, create intervention strategies, and

alcohol in their community. Our office is located in Oakland, CA. If

about sexual harassment and sexual violence, with the goal of creating
a violence and harassment free environment. Workshops focus on sexual
harassment, sexual assault, stalking, relationship violence, alcohol,
safe partying, and gender. SHAPE also serves as an advocacy and support

B.E.A.R.S.
The Greek Peer Health Education Program is designed to educate and train
student peers to provide educational programs to the Greek (fraternity
and sorority) community on issues of alcohol/drugs, sexual assault,
and violence. The program is developed, organized, and implemented by
trained students ("student coordinators") under the guidance
of the faculty sponsors. The program uses a multi-disciplinary approach
focusing on public health theory and practice; models of harm reduction
and environmental risk management; the influence of media, gender socialization,
and peer pressure; and the role of individual and community actions
that can lead to prevention.

SUI: Sex Under the Influence
April is both Alcohol Awareness and National Sexually Transmitted Disease
(STD) Awareness Month! As you know college students are not always aware
of the role and impact that sex under the influence can have in terms
of safety and consent, pleasure and the ability to reach orgasm, as
well as relationships at all levels ranging from meeting a potential
partner, "hooking-up," and being in a healthy relationship.
Just check out these stats from a Fall 2008 study on Cal students and
alcohol:
- 35% of Cal students
surveyed believe they would be more likely to have sex after drinking
3-4 whole drinks of alcohol.
- 6.42% reported
having unprotected intercourse/sexual activity as a result of drinking
alcohol.
- 25.75% of Cal
students reported forgetting where they were or what they did due
to drinking alcohol. You wouldn't even remember the sexual pleasure
and who wants that?
Stats like these
make April a prime time to conduct workshops on SUI: Sex Under the Influence.
The workshop will focus on the intersections of pleasure, sex, alcohol
and healthy relationships. If you want to remember the pleasure, and
I suspect you do, then come to the SUI workshop!
