Enrollment, Fees and Membership
| Who May Enroll | Students automatically are enrolled in the University's Student
Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), and charged a health insurance fee
on their registration bill. (See Why
SHIP)
Groups eligible for SHIP include:
New for 2011-12! UC SHIP offers a dependent health insurance plan for spouses, partners and children of UC Berkeley students enrolled in UC SHIP. This plan is a comprehensive major medical insurance plan, providing medical, counseling, prescription, vision and dental services; see more details here. Filing fee, withdrawn and concurrent enrollment students are not automatically enrolled; see below. |

| How to Enroll | Registered students are automatically enrolled in SHIP. The fee for SHIP is billed as part of students' registration fees. Note: Students can waive enrollment with proof of comparable insurance and receive a refund of the SHIP fee. Waivers must be filed prior to each fall semester.
Students on Filing Fee or Withdrawal status are not automatically enrolled in SHIP, and must apply for the plan. For more information and to apply, see SHIP for Filing Fee and Withdrawal Students. LAST DAY TO ENROLL FOR THE SPRING 2012 SEMESTER IS FEBRUARY 15, 2012. As enrollment eligibility is determined per semester, you will have another opportunity to purchase this voluntary dependent plan in July 2012 for the Fall 2012 semester. |

| Period of Coverage | Fall Semester: August 15 - January 14 Spring Semester: January 15 - August 14 Continuous enrollment in SHIP ensures continuous, year-round coverage. The minimum period of coverage is one semester. |
