You may also call (877) 428-5578, or enroll online at http://www.barneyandbarney.com/health-benefits/ (choose Medical Plan - Short Term). Short-term coverage will protect you from the devastating effects of expensive medical bills in the event of serious illness or injury. The premium (the amount you pay to enroll in the plan) is based on the plan's deductible (the amount you pay prior to the plan covering services). These plans can have large deductibles and significant exclusions, such as pre-existing conditions, maternity, and preventive care. It is your responsibility to understand the terms of coverage prior to purchasing a plan.
New UC Berkeley Graduates: If you have graduated and need a short term health insurance option to cover the 'gap' between the end of your SHIP insurance coverage and the start of a new job, these plans may suit your needs.
If you need short-term health insurance coverage while you are taking courses during the summer, students may choose from a variety of coverage options with different benefit levels.
As a registered UC Berkeley student for the Fall semester, you will be automatically enrolled in the Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) this fall. SHIP coverage begins August 15. If you don't need SHIP coverage, you may waive enrollment by completing an online waiver application here.
