Student Services

Meet the Medical Staff

The medical staff also includes physicians in eleven medical specialties, staff psychiatrists, and licensed physical therapists and athletic trainers.

Physicians  

Lynne Alper, MD
Dr. Lynne S. Alper joined UHS in 1994 and serves as a Primary Care Physician, working both in Urgent Care Clinic and in Primary Care Clinic. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. Alper received her medical degree ('89) from the University of Southern California and her bachelor's degree ('85) from Tufts University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine ('92) at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

In addition to her interest in college health, she has special clinical interests in internal medicine (including asthma, pulmonary conditions, migraine, diabetes, rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions, anxiety and depression), travel medicine (pre- and post-travel consultation), and eating disorders. She is also a member of the Eating Disorders Treatment Team at UHS.


Anna Bloxham, MD
Dr. Anna Bloxham joined UHS in 2001 and serves as a Primary Care Physician, working both in Urgent Care Clinic and in Primary Care Clinic. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. She received her bachelor's degree ('92) from University of California, Santa Cruz and her medical degree ('98) from Yale University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine ('01) at University of California, San Francisco. In addition to her interest in college health, she has special clinical interests in tuberculosis, infectious diseases & HIV, refugee health, and care of the underserved.

Bloxham also works at the City of Berkeley (Tuberculosis and Communicable Disease Program), Berkeley Primary Care (community clinic for patients who may not have insurance), and occasionally at Alta Bates Hospital covering the HIV/AIDS service. She is a volunteer physician for University of California, Berkeley-University of California, San Francisco Suitcase Clinic.


Cindy J. Chang, MD
Dr. Cindy Chang has served as Head Team Physician for Cal's 27 athletic teams since 1995. She is board certified in Family Medicine and also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. After earning both her bachelor's degree ('84) and medical ('89) degrees from Ohio State, Chang completed her Family Practice residency ('92) at University of California, Los Angeles before returning to Ohio State University for a fellowship in Sports Medicine. She was an elected four-year member of the Board of Directors for the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine (AMSSM), served on the Medical Education Committee for the American College of Sports Medicine and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the AMSSM Foundation.

Chang also is the author numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.


Elise Eichenberg, MD

Elizabeth Hedelman, MD
Dr. Elizabeth Hedelman joined UHS in 1995 and serves a Primary Care Physician in both Urgent Care Clinic and Primary Care Clinic. She is board certified in Family Practice. She received her medical degree from KU Medical Center at the University of Kansas and her bachelor's degree ('86) from University of California, Santa Barbara. She completed her residency in Family Practice ('95) at University of California, Davis. In addition to her interest in college health, she has a special clinical interest in eating disorders.

Hedelman is also a Healthnet Provider, an Asthma Protocol Committee member, a Migraine Protocol Committee chair, and a member of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team at UHS.


Robert Kevess, MD
Dr. Bob Kevess is a Primary Care Physician in both Primary Care Clinic and Urgent Care Clinic and has been with UHS since 1988. He also staffs the UHS Minor Procedures Clinic. He is board certified in Family Medicine. He received his medical degree ('84) from the NYU School of Medicine and his bachelor's degree ('80) from Brandeis University. He completed his residency in Family Medicine ('88) at San Francisco General Hospital. In addition to his interest in college health, he has special clinical interests in depression and anxiety, dermatology and minor skin procedures, musculoskeletal problems, migraine, tuberculosis, eating disorders, men's health, gay men's health, and transgender health including hormonal treatment.

Kevess serves as medical director and volunteer physician at the Berkeley Free Clinic and volunteer physician for University of California, Berkeley's Suitcase Clinic. He is also a member of the California Physicians' Alliance, which works to promote single payer health care.


Harris Masket, MD
Dr. Harris Masket joined UHS in 2004 and serves as Chief Physician in Urgent Care Clinic and Associate Team Physician in Sports Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. Masket received his medical degree ('99) at the George Washington University School of Medicine and his bachelor's degree ('93) at University of California, Berkeley. Masket completed his residency in Internal Medicine ('02) at Alameda County Medical Center.

In addition to his interest in college health and Urgent Care, he has special clinical interests in sports medicine, wound care, and nutrition.


Debra Nelson, MD
Dr. Debra Nelson joined UHS in 1989 and serves as a Primary Care Physician in Primary Care Clinic and Urgent Care Clinic. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. She received her medical degree ('81) from University of California, Los Angeles and her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College. Nelson completed her residency in Internal Medicine ('84) at the University of California, Los Angeles San Fernando Valley Program.


Jeffrey D. Nelson, MD
Dr. Jeffrey Nelson serves both as a Primary Care Physician in the Primary Care and Urgent Care Clinics and as an Associate Team Physician. He has been with UHS since 1999. He is board certified in Family Practice with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He received his medical degree ('90) at Dartmouth Medical School and his bachelor's degree ('86) at University of California, Berkeley. He then completed the Flight Surgery training program ('92) with the US Navy in Pensacola, Florida. Nelson completed his residency in Family Practice ('97) at University of California, Davis and a Fellowship in Sports Medicine ('99) in the University of California, Davis/University of California, Berkeley combined program.

Nelson is a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). In addition, he serves as team physician for the Cal Men's Soccer and Basketball teams.


Scott Swanson, MD
Dr. Scott Swanson serves as a Primary Care Physician in both Primary Care Clinic and Urgent Care Clinic and has been with UHS since 1984. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree ('78) from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and his bachelor's degree ('74) from Stanford University. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine ('81) at the Alameda County Medical Center, Highland General Hospital.

In addition to his interest in college health, Swanson has a special clinical interest in adult internal medicine.


Rich Tittle, MD
Dr. Rich Tittle joined UHS in 1977 and serves as a Primary Care Physician in Primary Care Clinic. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree ('73) from Stanford University and his bachelor's degree ('68) from Carleton College. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency ('77) at Presbyterian Hospital and University of California, San Francisco. In addition to his interest in college health, he has special clinical interests in general internal medicine, thyroid disorders, diabetes, and depression/anxiety.

Tittle also serves as Chair of Quality Improvement Committee for Clinical Services at UHS.
