Policies and Guidelines
Breastfeeding
Support
California employers are required to make reasonable efforts to provide
break time and space for employees who are nursing their infants to express
milk during work hours. The Breastfeeding Support Program assists the
University with implementation of AB 1025.
Ergonomics
Campus departments will make efforts to provide Visual Display Terminal
(VDT) users with workstations that conform to basic ergonomic guidelines.
Flextime
Supervisors are urged to promote the use of alternative work schedules
that enable employees to integrate personal concerns with work concerns.
Such schedules can include: (1) alternate, fixed schedules other than
the standard work week of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lunch from 12:00
to 1:00 pm; (2) flexible schedules revolving around a fixed core period;
(3) compressed work weeks of fewer than five days; (4)part-time work (including
job shares); and (5) part-year work based on peak periods of activity.
Healthy
Meetings
Campus meetings and events that include provision of refreshments should
meet the nutrition and sustainability guidelines including fruits or vegetables
and water, at a minimum, and food options made with whole grains, healthy
fats, lean protein sources and modest portions.
Smoking

Smoking is not permitted inside any facility owned or leased by the University
of California, Berkeley regardless of location. Smoking is not permitted
in any outdoor campus facility used for spectator sports, meetings, entertainment,
dining, or designated children's play areas. Smoking is permitted outdoors
except within 25 feet of campus building entrances, exits, or operable
windows. Advertising tobacco products on campus is not permitted.
Vending,
Snacks
Campus snack vending machines, managed by ASUC and RSSP, contain 50% product
selection meeting the campus guidelines for healthier snack options.
